Transphorm Unveils Chargers For 2- & 3-Wheel EVs In Reference Designs
Transphorm, a GaN leader, unveiled 300W and 600W EV charging reference designs using their SuperGaN® devices, intended for two- and three-wheel EVs, supporting India's 14 million and China's 45 million annual sales. These designs tout high power density, cost-efficiency, and versatility for various applications like fast charging and laptops. Tushar Dhayagude, VP at Transphorm, highlighted GaN's growing EV market adoption due to its superior performance and cost-effectiveness compared to silicon options.
The CC/CV lithium-ion charging method prevents battery overcharging. The reference designs incorporate SuperGaN FETs and controllers in PFC and LLC topologies, offering efficiency across battery ranges. The design employs an analog controller and firmware-based digital controller, reducing development resources and time. Notably, the 300W design includes an extra PWM input for diverse battery chemistries.
Key specifications include voltage, wattage, FET configurations, and efficiency rates. SuperGaN FETs offer robustness, noise immunity, and simplified circuitry design. Transphorm provides access to detailed design documents, firmware, and guidelines for precise charger implementation.
