Leap Launches New California Grid Services Program To Drive Revenue For Battery Storage Systems

Leap, the industry-leading platform for energy market access, is driving grid reliability in California with the launch of its California Demand Side Grid Support (DSGS) program. Developed in partnership with the California Energy Commission (CEC), DSGS incentivizes distributed energy resources (DERs) to provide essential support to the grid during periods of high electricity demand. Leap's expertise in monetizing DERs has been instrumental in shaping the DSGS program guidelines, resulting in a capacity-based program that compensates behind-the-meter (BTM) battery storage systems for exporting energy back to the grid.

This program structure simplifies market participation for battery storage systems, enabling them to play a pivotal role in maintaining grid reliability and reducing the impact of extreme weather events in California.
